Background:  T. equigenitalis is a Gram-negative bacterium and the causal agent of contagious equine metritis (CEM). CEM is an inflammation of the endometrium of mares, which usually results in temporary infertility. Taylorella equigenitalis is transmitted mainly during mating. It can also be spread by infected semen during artificial insemination.

Description:  BactoReal® Kit Taylorella equigenitalis uses real-time PCR for the detection of the 16S rRNA gene of T. equigenitalis. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). To minimize PCR cross-contamination,the reaction mix included contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The assay detects DNA of Taylorella equigenitalis by targeting the 16S rRNA gene using real-time PCR.
It is the causative agent of contagious equine metritis (CEM), a disease affecting mare fertility.
The assay is validated for DNA extracted from swab samples.
An artificial DNA IPC is added during extraction to verify DNA integrity and detect PCR inhibition. It is detected in the Cy5 channel.
The assay includes only the detection reagents, while the kit provides a complete set including PCR mix and water.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
