Background:  Swine Influenza is an acute, febrile respiratory disease of swine with high morbidity and low mortality. In the industry it is commonly known as Swine Flu, Hog Flu, and Pig Flu. It is caused by the influenza virus, mainly influenza type A, an enveloped virus with single-stranded, segmented RNA with negative polarity as genome. Influenza A virus infects a wide variety of warm-blooded animals including pigs, birds, horses as well as humans.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit SIV uses one-step reverse transcription RT real-time PCR for the detection of the matrix protein gene of the influenza A virus of warm-blooded animals including pigs, birds, horses as well as humans. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). Reverse transcription and PCR can be performed in one reaction well.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The assay qualitatively detects RNA of Swine Influenza A by targeting the matrix protein gene.
The assay is validated for RNA extracted from nasal swabs, tracheal secretions, nasopharyngeal aspirates, bronchoalveolar lavages, and lung biopsies.
An artificial RNA internal positive control (IPC) is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to monitor RNA extraction efficiency and RT-PCR inhibition.
The assay has an analytical sensitivity of 10 RNA copies per PCR reaction, with a limit of detection (LoD95%) of 10.8 copies per reaction.
The assay contains only detection reagents and requires an external PCR mix, while the kit provides a complete reagent set including PCR mix and water.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
