Background:  Swine delta coronavirus (SDCV, also called porcine delta coronavirus PDCoV) is a member of the genus Coronavirus (Deltacoronavirus), family Coronaviridae, and a positive-sense, enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus. SDCV is a new virus first found in pigs in Hong Kong in 2012 and 2014 in the United States. Swine delta coronavirus causes acute watery diarrhea and vomiting in a large proportion at all ages of swine. Swine delta coronavirus infection is clinically similar to, but genetically distinct from porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV).

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Swine Delta Coronavirus uses one-step reverse transcription RT real-time PCR for the detection of the 3’UTR of swine delta coronavirus (PDCoV). Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The test does not detect porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) or transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV). The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). Reverse transcription and PCR can be performed in one reaction well.

Assay: Optional - this product is also available as an assay-only format with primers, probe and a positive control, but without reaction mix.

The assay qualitatively detects RNA of Swine Delta Coronavirus (SDCV) by targeting the 3’UTR region.
The assay is validated for RNA extracted from fecal samples and oral fluids of acutely affected pigs.
An artificial RNA internal positive control (IPC) is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to confirm successful extraction and identify potential RT-PCR inhibition.
The analytical sensitivity is 2 RNA copies per PCR, with a limit of detection (LoD95%) of 18 copies per reaction.
The assay contains only detection reagents and requires an external PCR mix, while the kit provides a complete reagent set including PCR mix and water.
