Background:  Streptococcus suis (S. suis) is a Grampositive, zoonotic bacterial pathogen of pigs and wild boars. It is associated with fever, sudden deaths, respiratory problems, and pneumonia, meningitis and fertility problems in pig herds, representing a substantial economic burden for the pig industry.

Description:  BactoReal® Kit Streptococcus suis uses real-time PCR for the detection of the fibrinogen binding protein (fbpS) gene of Streptococcus suis. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). To minimize PCR cross-contamination,the reaction mix included contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The assay qualitatively detects DNA of Streptococcus suis by targeting the fibrinogen binding protein (fbpS) gene using real-time PCR.
The assay is validated for DNA extracted from tissue samples, such as lung and tonsil.
The IPC is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to monitor DNA extraction quality and detect PCR inhibition.
The assay detects at least 1 DNA copy per reaction with a LoD95% of 25 copies and shows linearity from 100 to 1,000,000 copies.
The assay includes only detection reagents and requires an external PCR mix, while the kit provides a complete reagent set including PCR mix and water.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
