Background:  Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), also called rabbit calicivirus (RCV) or European brown hare virus is a nonenveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA calicivirus of the genus Lagovirus that causes rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHD). This disease was first reported in China in 1984 and is a highly contagious and fatal disease for the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). There exist three distinct groups: the classic RHDV with the genogroups G1–G5 isolated from 1984 onwards, the antigenic variant RHDVa/G6 identified in 1996, and RHDV2 identified in 2010. The different genotypes and their variants could lead to mortality rates of 50-100%. Virus replication takes place preliminarily in the liver, but other organs are also inflamed (e.g. kidney, spleen, trachea, lung). That explains the multiple different severe symptoms of the disease.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit RHDV is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the RNA of the capsid protein gene vp60 of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease virus (RHDV). Our carefully designed primers and probes ensure the highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

PCR platforms: ViroReal® Kit RHDV was validated with the ABI® 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System (fast cycle parameters are not supported, Thermo Fisher Scientific), and was also tested with Mx3005P® (Agilent) and LightCycler® 480 II (Roche). It is also compatible with other real-time PCR instruments which detect and differentiate fluorescence in the FAM and Cy5 channel (e.g. qTOWER3G (Analytik Jena), MIC instrument (bio molecular systems), cobas z 480 Analyzer (Roche), and QuantStudio™ 5 / 6 / 7 (Thermo Fisher Scientific)).

Assay: Optional - this product is also available as an assay-only format with primers, probe and a positive control, but without reaction mix.
