Background:  Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV), an RNA virus, is a member of the genus Coronavirus (Betacoronavirus), family Coronaviridae, and primarily infects pigs less than three weeks old. This viral disease of piglets is characterized by vomiting, anorexia and neurological symptoms and results either in rapid death or chronic emaciation (vomiting and wasting). The mortality rate in infected piglets under three weeks old is nearly 100 %, but the incidence of infection is small as most piglets are protected by maternal antibodies. Clinically apparent disease develops only when young piglets from non-immune sows are exposed. The virus is spread via aerosol.

Description:  ViroReal® PHEV uses one-step reverse transcription RT real-time PCR for the detection of the nucleocapsid protein gene (N gene) of the PHEV. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). Reverse transcription and PCR can be performed in one reaction well.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The kit detects RNA of Porcine Hemagglutinating Encephalomyelitis Virus (PHEV) by targeting the nucleocapsid protein gene (N gene) using RT-PCR.
PHEV primarily affects piglets under three weeks of age and is associated with vomiting, anorexia, neurological signs, and high mortality.
An artificial RNA IPC is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to monitor RNA integrity and potential RT-PCR inhibition.
The kit detects as few as 10 RNA copies per reaction, with a LoD95 of 36 copies per PCR reaction.
The kit includes all necessary components such as detection reagents, master mix, and controls, while the assay provides only the detection reagents.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
