Background:  The sacbrood virus (SBV) is a member of the family Iflaviridae. The genome is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA molecule. Sacbrood affects the brood of the honeybee, resulting in larval death. Larvae are infected by consuming brood food contaminated with SBV. Larvae with sacbrood fail to pupate and the skin of the larvae then gradually becomes a fluid filled sac. The SBV may remain viable in dead larvae, honey or pollen for up to several weeks. SBV may also affect the adult bee, but without symptoms. Sacbrood occurs most frequently in spring.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Sacbrood Virus is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the RNA of the polyprotein gene of Sacbrood Virus. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).
