Background:  Mannheimia haemolytica (formerly Pasteurella haemolytica) is an opportunistic pathogen of cattle, sheep and other ruminants. It causes epizootic pneumonia in cattle known as shipping fever, transit fever or pneumonic pasteurellosis. Mannheimia haemolytica constitutes part of the normal bacterial flora found in the upper respiratory tract of most cattle but is not considered as normal flora of the lungs. It gains access to the lungs when host defenses are compromised by stress or infection with respiratory viruses or mycoplasma.

Description:  BactoReal® Kit Mannheimia haemolytica uses real-time PCR for the detection of the 16S rDNA gene of M. haemolytica. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). To minimize PCR cross-contamination,the reaction mix included contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Assay: Optional - this product is also available as an assay-only format with primers, probe and a positive control, but without reaction mix.

The kit detects DNA of Mannheimia haemolytica by amplifying the 16S rDNA gene using real-time PCR with FAM channel detection.
M. haemolytica is an opportunistic pathogen in cattle, sheep, and ruminants. It causes bovine respiratory disease complex, including shipping fever and pneumonic pasteurellosis.
The kit is validated for DNA extracts from tracheal swabs, washes, lung tissue, and associated lymph nodes.
An internal DNA positive control (IPC), added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel, monitors extraction efficiency and detects PCR inhibition.
The analytical sensitivity is 3 DNA copies per PCR reaction. Validation confirmed specificity without cross-reactivity to related species such as Pasteurella multocida.
