Background:

Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV) is a positive single-stranded RNA virus within the family Dicistroviridae and the genus Aparavirus. It is closely related to Acute bee paralysis virus (ABPV) and to Kashmir bee virus (KVB), hence all three are summarized in the so-called AKI-complex. That complex plays a role in the sudden collapses of honeybee hives and colonies, leading to severe economical losses worldwide. It causes systemic infections at all life-stages with extremely shaking wings and progressive paralysis as a nerval concomitant symptom. Infections increase during the season and the virus load peak is in winter. Therefore, weak colonies collapse in the early months of the year.

To distinguish between the Aparavirus species within the AKI-complex, ingenetix offers individual real-time PCR Kits for detection of Acute bee paralysis virus, Kashmir bee virus and Israeli acute paralysis virus. Moreover a real-time PCR Kit for the universal detection of Aparaviruses is available.

Description:

ViroReal® Kit Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the RNA of the capsid protein gene of Israeli acute paralysis virus. Our carefully designed primers and probes ensure the highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The kit enables qualitative detection of RNA from Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) by targeting the capsid protein gene using real-time RT-PCR.
IAPV is part of the AKI complex and is associated with bee colony collapse. It causes systemic infections, paralysis, and shortened lifespan, especially during winter.
The kit includes an artificial RNA internal positive control (IPC) to monitor RNA extraction and detect RT-PCR inhibition. Detection occurs in the Cy5 channel.
The limit of detection (LoD95%) is approximately 27.6 RNA copies per reaction.
The kit is validated for RNA extracted from bee colony samples, including homogenized bee tissues.
BactoReal®, MycoReal®, ParoReal® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
