Background:  The species bovine torovirus (BToV) is a member of the family Tobaniviridae, subfamily Torovirinae. The genome is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA molecule. The kidney-shaped BToV causes diarrhea in calves but respiratory infections have also been reported and it has a worldwide distribution. Bovine torovirus, formerly called breda virus (BRV), was originally isolated from diarrheic calves in Breda, Iowa, in 1979.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Bovine Torovirus is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the membrane protein (M) gene of the BToV. Our carefully designed primers and probes ensure the highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The kit targets the membrane protein (M) gene of BToV RNA, which is detected using a FAM-labeled probe.
The IPC helps verify the success of RNA extraction and identifies RT-PCR inhibition, reducing the risk of false-negative results.
The kit is validated for ABI 7500, LightCycler 480 II, Mx3005P, QuantStudio 5/6/7, MIC, qTOWER3G, and cobas z 480.
Yes. The IPC RNA can be added during extraction for full-process monitoring or into the PCR master mix to monitor RT-PCR performance only.
Primers and probes were validated in silico and experimentally to detect all known BToV strains without cross-reactivity.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
