Background:  Bovine Parainfluenza Virus 3 (BPIV3) is an enveloped, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA ((-)ssRNA) virus belonging to the Paramyxoviridae family and is genetically and antigenically related to Human Parainfluenza Virus 3. Three genotypes, A (BPIV3a), B (BPIV3b), and C (BPIV3c), have been described, based on genetic and phylogenetic analysis. BPIV3 infections are found in a wide variety of mammals, including cattle, humans, sheep, goats, bison, guinea pigs, rhinoceros, moose, bighorn sheep, and camels. Cross-species infections have been reported. Usually, viral infection is asymptomatic or associated with only mild respiratory symptoms. In cattle, it is associated with the clinical picture known as shipping fever. It is an important virus of the bovine respiratory disease complex. When coinfection with other pneumonia-associated agents (e.g. respiratory syncytial virus, bacteria) is present, severe respiratory disease may develop.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Bovine Parainfluenza Virus 3 is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the RNA of the phosphoprotein P gene of the so far known Bovine Parainfluenza Virus 3 (BPIV3) genotypes A, B and C. Our carefully designed primers and probes ensure the highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The kit targets the phosphoprotein (P) gene of BPIV3 RNA and detects amplification in the FAM fluorescence channel.
The test detects all known BPIV3 genotypes: A, B, and C, based on sequence validation.
The internal control confirms successful RNA extraction and detects reverse transcription or PCR inhibition, minimizing false negatives.
Validated systems include ABI 7500, LightCycler 480 II, Mx3005P, QuantStudio 5/6/7, MIC, qTOWER3G, and cobas z 480.
Separate workspaces for extraction, PCR setup, and amplification are recommended. Use RNase-free materials, wear gloves, and pipette the positive control last.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
