Background:
Acute bee paralysis virus (ABPV) is a positive single-stranded RNA virus within the family Dicistroviridae and the genus Aparavirus. It is closely related to to Kashmir bee virus (KBV) and Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV), hence all three are summarized in the so-called AKI-complex. Members of that complex play a role in the sudden collapses of honeybee hives and colonies and are responsible for severe economical losses worldwide. The symptoms of ABPV infections are pompous abdomens, trembling wings, flightless bees and lead to sudden death.
To distinguish between the Aparavirus species within the AKI-complex, ingenetix offers individual real-time PCR Kits for detection of Acute bee paralysis virus, Kashmir bee virus and Israeli acute paralysis virus. Moreover a real-time PCR Kit for the universal detection of Aparaviruses is available.
Description:
ViroReal® Kit Acute Bee Paralysis Virus is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of the RNA of the capsid protein gene of Acute bee paralysis virus. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

PCR platforms:
ViroReal® Kit Acute Bee Paralysis Virus was validated with the QuantStudio™ 5 Real-Time PCR System (Thermo Fisher Scientific) and was also tested with the ABI® 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System (fast cycle parameters are not supported, Thermo Fisher Scientific). It is also compatible with other real-time PCR instruments which detect and differentiate fluorescence in FAM and Cy5 channel (e.g. Mx3005P® (Agilent), QuantStudio™ 6 / 7 (Thermo Fisher Scientific), qTOWER3G (Analytik Jena), MIC instrument (bio molecular systems), LightCycler® 480 II (Roche) und cobas z 480 Analyzer (Roche)).
Frequently Asked Questions:
The kit targets the capsid protein gene of ABPV, with detection via the FAM fluorescence channel.
Yes, the kit may also detect closely related viruses of the AKI-complex (KBV and IAPV) due to sequence similarity.
Yes, if not used during extraction, the IPC RNA can be added to the master mix at a 1:100 dilution to detect inhibition.
The kit is compatible with QuantStudio 5/6/7, qTOWER3G, MIC, cobas z 480, and other FAM/Cy5-capable real-time PCR systems.
Use separate areas for RNA extraction and PCR setup, work with RNase-free consumables, and always pipette the positive control last.
BactoReal®, MycoReal®, ParoReal® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
