Background:  The species bovine torovirus (BToV) is a member of the family Coronaviridae, subfamily Torovirinae. The genome is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA molecule. The kidney-shaped BToV causes diarrhea in calves but respiratory infections have also been reported and it has a worldwide distribution. Bovine torovirus, formerly called breda virus (BRV), was originally isolated from diarrheic calves in Breda, Iowa, in 1979.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Bovine Torovirus uses one-step reverse transcription RT real-time PCR for the detection of the membrane protein (M) gene of the BToV. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). Reverse transcription and PCR can be performed in one reaction well.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The assay detects RNA of Bovine Torovirus (BToV) by targeting the membrane protein (M) gene using real-time RT-PCR.
BToV is associated with diarrhea in calves and has been reported worldwide. Respiratory infections have also been observed.
An artificial RNA internal control (IPC) is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to monitor inhibition and reagent integrity.
The assay has an analytical sensitivity of approximately 50–100 RNA copies per PCR reaction.
An assay provides only the detection reagents, while a kit includes additional components such as PCR mix and controls.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
