Background:  Aerococcus viridans is a Grampositive bacterium causing gaffkemia, a fatal lobster disease, and it has been associated with septicemia in sea turtles. Aerococcus viridans has also been isolated from the milk of cows with subclinical mastitis. It can also cause different human infections.

Description:  BactoReal® Kit Aerococcus viridans uses real-time PCR for the detection of the 16S rRNA gene of Aerococcus viridans. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). To minimize PCR cross-contamination,the reaction mix included contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

Assay: Optional - this product is also available as an assay-only format with primers, probe and a positive control, but without reaction mix.

It detects DNA of Aerococcus viridans by targeting the 16S rRNA gene using real-time PCR.
Aerococcus viridans can cause gaffkemia in lobsters, septicemia in sea turtles, and mastitis in cows. It has also been isolated in human infections.
A DNA internal positive control (IPC) is added during extraction and detected in the Cy5 channel to verify PCR integrity and extraction success.
The assay detects as few as 5 DNA copies per PCR reaction.
Assays contain detection reagents only, while kits also include master mix, positive controls, and ready-to-use components.
