Background:  Enteroviruses are non-enveloped, positive single-stranded RNA viruses (ss(+)RNA) and are members of the family Picornaviridae. The genus Enterovirus has a worldwide distribution and includes numerous viral groups infecting humans, bovines, equines, simians, porcines and rodents. Enteroviruses infecting humans are poliovirus, coxsackievirus, echovirus, human enteroviruses and human rhinoviruses. Enteroviruses are the causative agents e.g. for infection of the respiratory tract (summer flu, pharyngitis, pneumonia) and infection of inner organs (myocarditis, encephalitis, pleurodynia), aseptic meningitis, herpangina, hand-foot-mouth disease, hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and poliomyelitis.

Description:  ViroReal® Kit Enterovirus is a real-time PCR for the qualitative detection of RNA of the 5´UTR region of the genus Enterovirus. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC) system. To minimize PCR cross-contamination, the included reaction mix contains dUTP and uracil-N glycosylase (UNG).

PCR platforms: ViroReal® Kit Enterovirus was validated with the ABI® 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System (fast cycle parameters are not supported, Thermo Fisher Scientific), and was also tested with Mx3005P® (Agilent), qTOWER3G (Analytik Jena), MIC instrument (bio molecular systems), LightCycler® 480 II (Roche) and cobas Z 480 Analyzer (Roche). It is also compatible with other real-time PCR instruments which detect and differentiate fluorescence in the FAM and Cy5 channel (e.g. QuantStudio 5 / 6 / 7 (Thermo Fisher Scientific)).

Frequently Asked Questions:

The kit amplifies RNA of the 5´UTR region of enteroviruses using one-step RT-PCR, ensuring broad coverage of clinically relevant strains.
Confirmed serotypes include coxsackievirus A1, A5, A6, A13, A21, coxsackievirus B2, B3, B5, echoviruses 1, 6, 11, 14, 30, enterovirus 71, 90, 99, enterovirus D68, and polioviruses types 1–3. Some rhinoviruses may also be detected with lower sensitivity.
Validated sample types are RNA extracts from human nasopharyngeal swabs and stool specimens.
Enteroviruses can cause a wide spectrum of diseases, including respiratory infections, myocarditis, encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, hand-foot-mouth disease, hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, and poliomyelitis. Rapid detection enables timely diagnosis and patient care.
The LoD95% is 30.6 target copies per reaction. Diagnostic validation with nasopharyngeal swabs and stool samples showed 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity.
BactoReal® , MycoReal® , ParoReal ® and ViroReal® Kits run with the same thermal cycling conditions.
